He even allowed Garth to hug him before he changed his mind, while being pleased Garth found happiness with his new family. Thanks to this method of confronting his most hated enemy, Dean is able to catch Dick off-guard and finally kill him with the help of Castiel who restrains Dick for him. However, as a side-effect of killing Dick, Dean and Castiel are dragged to Purgatory themselves with his essence where Dean remains trapped for a year. Despite encountering several Leviathans in Purgatory, Dean apparently never encounters Dick again after his death.
At first, Dean and Gordon hit it off pretty well, they even do a hunt together, though once Dean realizes how psychotic Gordon is, they become enemies. This is especially true when Gordon begins to hunt Sam down in Hunted. Dean later mentions Gordon’s death to Lenore with a pleased tone, much to Sam’s annoyance. As God explains his reasons, Dean gets visibly emotional and starts crying.
When Lucifer stabs and kills Castiel, Dean is left devastated and standing over the corpse of his best friend’s lifeless vessel. Kelly however, is inspired to go the Heavenly Portal by her son, and drives off with The Impala, leaving Dean and Sam with a broken truck and Castiel in the backseat. Dean fixes the truck while Castiel and Kelly meet with Heaven’s new ruler Joshua at the Portal. Joshua plans on killing Kelly and her baby by making her walk through the Portal, but Dagon interrupts them, kills Joshua, and attempts to kill Castiel. Sam and Dean arrive and try to stop her, but Dagon proves immune to their attacks and even destroys The Colt. Dean watches helplessly as Dagon moves in to strike Castiel, but the angel receives power from Lucifer’s son and is able to incinerate the demon.
Castiel proceeds to heal Dean’s arm, but when Dean tries to stop Castiel from taking Kelly away, Castiel knocks him and Sam out. Despite the danger they now face of the world ending, Dean takes Castiel on a road trip, to discuss about Castiel’s reasoning for becoming a vessel and Dean’s own opinion of the angel. Dean tells Castiel that he is “the best friend they ever had” and he is like a brother to the Winchesters. Their conversation soon gets interrupted by a call from Sam, informing them of a new plan. In The Prisoner, Castiel is worried about the mark of Cain’s influence after Dean slaughters the Styne Family and talks to him.
However, not all of these relationships were deemed fruitful for the boys. Because of the nature of their lives and careers, relationships end up being added complications for the Winchesters. They never really stay in any one place for too long and finding people who understand their jobs is pretty difficult. The constant life-or-death situations Dean was forced into while in Purgatory created an extreme change in him. While he was stuck there, he became emotionless and paranoid of the fear of getting attacked. He killed monsters of Purgatory with ease and was always fighting for his survival.

Much to his surprise, Dean finds Castiel again and is shocked to see him alive. In The Born-Again Identity, Dean finds Castiel, now going by Emmanuel, married and has no memories of his past dateinasia.com life. On the way to the hospital, Dean and Castiel talk, and Dean talks about how his “friend” betrayed him. Castiel doesn’t catch on to this, and tells Dean that he’s not a machine.

Later learning of his role as the vessel for the Archangel Michael and Sam’s role as Lucifer’s vessel, the brothers meet the King of Crossroads Crowley and fight against the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse to defeat Lucifer. While trying to cope with his impending death and make the best of his final year, Dean begins to start hunting the freed Demons. Meeting a seemingly helpful demon Ruby, Dean learns that he too may become a demon himself if he burns in Hell too long. Learning Lilith to have taken the throne of Hell from Azazel and to hold Dean’s life contract in her hands, the brothers eventually confront her. Dean Winchester was created by Eric Kripke, creator and original showrunner of Supernatural, when he pitched a show to The WB about two brothers who investigate the supernatural. Dean’s name is a homage to Dean Moriarty in Jack Kerouac’s road-trip novel On the Road, tying into Kripke’s concept for an Americana road-trip television series.
Deaths
When Dean learns Abaddon has taken Sam hostage in exchange for Henry, Dean immediately wanted to save his brother and knocked out his grandfather to bring him along. On the way, Dean earned Henry’s respect by going out of his way to save Sam and calling him his only real family. This causes Henry to make a plan, though Dean was worried for Henry’s safety as a result but the latter was insistent. The two were able to defeat Abaddon but at the cost of Henry who uses his final moment to express pride in them and their father. When demons arrive to kidnap him and his mother, Ben quickly calls Dean who becomes obsessed with rescuing them. During the rescue, Dean hesitates to do anything when the demon-possessed Lisa uses Ben as a hostage, but manages to free him by throwing holy water in her face.
Requesting Death’s help, Dean is unable to get Castiel to return the souls of Purgatory in time and the Leviathans break free and begin an effort to take over the Earth. After their father figure Bobby is killed by Dick Roman, the Leviathan leader, they gain an ally through Kevin Tran, a new prophet. When Zachariah later transports Dean to the Green Room to keep him from preventing Sam from killing Lilith, he tries to accommodate Dean by giving his favorite food, women, and drinks. Dean was sickened to hear that the angels wanted the Apocalypse to start so Michael will defeat Lucifer. Dean considered smashing a statue bust over his head after learning this, despite Zachariah warning him of the ineffectiveness of the action and is enraged by the angels’ true plans. Dean was freed from Zachariah’s grasp when Castiel rebelled by banishing him long enough for Dean to try and reach Sam but to no avail as Lucifer was freed.

Viewers today don’t take kindly to physical abuse, especially when it’s dished out by an older sibling to their younger one. Dean’s habit now appears rash and mean-spirited, with Sam coming across as a victim who didn’t have it in him to stand up to his dominating brother. Dean has the tendency to blame everyone around him when he gets mad, such as telling Castiel he was dead to him when Mary disappeared, even though Castiel had nothing to do with it.
John became a hunter himself, and trained Dean to be one as well, though both hid the supernatural from Sam until he was 8 years old. The Winchesters constantly moved around the country, living in motels and the homes of John’s friends. Dean was left to look after Sam with John being continuously absent during their childhood. When Dean was 16, he was arrested for stealing and spent time in a boys’ home where he had the opportunity to go to a regular school, though eventually Dean chose to return to Sam. Dean was predestined to be the archangel Michael’s true vessel, however Dean hated Michael, as Michael wanted to battle Lucifer, which would have led to the end of the world and the death of his brother.

They’ve been in each other’s lives for as long as they can remember, but their sibling relationship isn’t as simple as a typical fraternal bond. The three co-creators of the series all previously worked on Supernatural. Jensen Ackles starred in all fifteen seasons as Dean Winchester, a role he is reprising. Danneel Harris-Ackles portrayed the role of Anael from season 13 to season 15 and will appear in the new series, although it is unknown whether she will reprise the role or play a new character.
